Scrap Your Guestbook

Guestbooks. What's so great about a book with people's names? You already know who you invited to your wedding. And really, how many times in your life as a happy couple are you going to open up a book and read names? Very few.

Recently, brides and grooms have been tasked with finding innovative alternatives to guestbooks. Videographers are one viable option; however, get creative-don't be afraid to add some flair to your guestbook. Or eliminate it altogether.

One idea is to turn your guestbook into a scrapbook. Instead of providing a book for people to sign, include colorful pieces of photo-safe paper (that means acid- and lignen-free) with your wedding invitations. Attach instructions for invitees to write and sign well-wishes or a special memory of the couple on the paper. Have them return it with with their RSVP cards. Your guestbook just became more stylish, and you can bet you'll look back fondly on these.

But wait-take it a step further. As guests arrive at your reception, have an attendant take pictures of them. Make sure that person records names. Combine these pictures with the personal passages that people returned and compile them in a scrapbook. Use colorful pens, stickers and any other remnants of your reception to add oomph (just make sure they're photo-safe). More fun and creative than a normal guestbook? You bet.

Another option is to include recipe cards with your wedding invitations. Have invitees jot down their favorite recipes and return them with their RSVP cards. Compile these into a neat recipe book that's much more personal than The Joy of Cooking.

Here's another idea: Place a couple single-use cameras on each table at your reception. Have guests take a group picture and individual pictures of each couple or guest. Include a small book for guests to write their names and well-wishes for the happy couple.

Or, make your own guestbook. Buy a photo-safe album and decorate the pages with stickers, pictures and designs-you name it-and lines for guests' names. Have an attendant monitor the book at your reception.

Don't be afraid to think outside the box. There are so many creative alternatives to guestbooks. Whatever you do, make it personal-this is your wedding, after all!
