Think about the most beautiful wedding you have ever attended. Chances are, there were flowers adorning the ceremony site, the bride and bridesmaids carried flowers and beautiful centerpieces enhanced tables at the reception.
Choosing flowers is probably one of the easiest tasks when planning your wedding. You can pick what you want and work with a florist to design your own unique arrangement. Are you planning a lavish wedding or something a bit simpler? What is your budget? Elaborate floral arrangements at a more low-key wedding may look out of place.
For smaller ceremonies, consider carrying three white lilies bound with a white ribbon. Though simple, they radiate elegance and beauty. If you, as the bride, would rather carry more decorative flowers, how about providing your bridesmaids with the lilies? Pairing lilies and roses for your bouquet is still elegant but simple; plus, your bouquet is different than but not out of place from that of your bridesmaids.
If you're planning an elaborate wedding, go big or go home. Roses in any color are always classy; a big bouquet mixed with baby's breath and some greens will look beautiful no matter what. Consider making your flowers the color of the bridesmaids' dresses; theirs could be white with spots of color here and there. What about completely different colors? If your bridesmaids are wearing royal blue dresses, for example, magenta and orange flowers will stand out. Be bold!
Make being a bridesmaid fun for your friends-allow them to pick some of their favorite flowers. As long as no one bouquet sticks out from another, what's the harm in having a variety? To personalize bouquets even more, include mementos for each bridesmaid. If one enjoys the beach, add a charm of a palm tree to the ribbon around her bouquet.
Centerpieces at your reception should also complement the motif of your wedding. One creative idea is using a mirror and candles to accent your flowers. Place a round mirror on the table; center your floral arrangement and surround it with tealights for a romantic effect. Another option is a tall, thin vase holding one or two long-stemmed flowers, such as tiger lilies or orchids.
Your flowers should always reflect you. This is your day, after all!
